Now that you have a new house waiting for you in your local, don’t hurry yet and get a local moving truck rental. Here are the things you need to do first.
To cut your expenses on a local moving service, try to inspect your belongings first. If you see an item and you are not sure whether it will have a place in your new house, set it aside. When you finished inspecting your things, check again the items that are not so important to you. Maybe you can just leave them behind. Or, yes of course, you may have a move-out garage sale! You will not only save money, you can earn money too! Or if you are generous enough, you can go to your favorite charity and donate the things that you want to discard. Just remember; never give items to other people that deserve to be thrown in the trash.
When packing your things, separate fragile from those that are not. You don’t want your precious glassware set turn into a million pieces! Heavy items should be packed in smaller boxes so that lifting or carrying will be a lot easier. Label the boxes by contents and room. Unpacking should be less stressful than packing.
Travel bags and suitcases are there to be filled. It is silly to move empty bags and suitcases. You can put all your intimate belongings in there, especially when the bags are handy.
As much as possible, do not move food items. A week or two before the move-out, there is no need for you to buy food in bulks for they will only take a lot of space in a car or in a truck. Also, it’s the secret to a hassle-free move-out travel. Not unless you want to see your strawberry jam being poured on other food items.
Inspect every room and every space in the house. What’s worse than realizing you’ve left behind a birthday gift from your long-time crush? Search for all your things – in the basement, in the unused room, in the garage, and up in the attic. Also inspect small spaces. Who knows, maybe your baby’s stuffed toy got stuck in that small space you always miss to notice.
All electronic items should be taken care of – excellently. Pack them with great care, for these items are one of the most important properties that you may have. As much as possible it would be best if you use your personal car for these, along with all your important documents, jewelry, and cash. It is also a good idea to backup your important computer files. Let’s just be realistic, accidents may happen.
Light bulbs from lamps should be removed first and wrapped in a newspaper. Place them all in one hard container and label them each so that you won’t have difficulty trying to sort later, which bulbs go into this or that.
It’s good to have a lot of people involved in the preparation for a move-out for it makes the work faster. But sometimes you may opt to have few people to have less chaotic sorting and packing.
